NRASTC LIGHT is a supervision and rescue qualification for teachers working on the poolside or in the water during programmed activities, such as a swimming lesson when Lifeguard or First Aid backup is available to respond quickly in the event of emergency.
The aim of the course is to make swimming teachers and coaches more confident should an incident arise. Concentrating on raising awareness of potential hazards, prevent accidents and how to take appropriate emergency action when required.

- 6 hours plus assessment

- The teacher, swimming pool, and class management
- Intervention rescue
- Emergency action
- CPR and drowning/effects of drowning
This qualification is accredited by the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) and is valid for 24 Months
RLSS UK is regulated by Ofqual, Qualifications Wales and CCEA in Northern Ireland.
Is this the course for me?
NRASTC LIGHT candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Must be 16 years of age at the date of assessment
- Be able to meet the following criteria prior to the course:
- Swim 50m
- Surface dive to the deepest part of the pool
- Climb out without help and without using steps or ladders
- Must complete minimum guided learning hours
- Successfully complete the course assessment
